Hi, I'm Shanti. Sassafras, foodie, social media junkie, twentysomething who loves Jesus, people, life, causing trouble and laughing too loud. I've come to the realization that for a girl who lives in technicolor, I sure wear a lot of black. follow me on twitter @shantimedina.

The Watoto Children’s Choir were at our morning services today and within seconds of them being on stage I started crying. And it didn’t stop. Not after the first song or the second or even when they were finished. These children were so spirited, so full of joy…a joy that I rarely ever see. Something SO pure and wonderful, it blew me away. It is the type of thing where I was pulled out of my “me me me” mindset for a few minutes as I watched these kids, who have lost either one or both of their parents to aids and have been left orphaned, dance and sing and be thankful to God. A girl talked about how she couldn’t go to school and now she does and it makes her very happy. Another kid said something, in his cute accent none the less, about how God has not forgotten them and how they were going to help make Uganda a better place. He must have been like 6. How many 6 year olds have that viewpoint? Heck, how many 16, 26, 36 to 96 year olds see with eyes and a heart like that?

I’m not saying our problems are meaningless, because we all have our lives to live and race to run, but a little perspective is necessary. I’m so blessed, you’re so blessed. Let’s just remember that and be thankful even in times like this. Especially in times like this.
